    Spiti Valley Circuit Tour Itinerary From Shimla

    Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla-Narkanda drive

    Distance 175 km. 6-7 hours drivetime on NH5


    On arrival at Chandigarh, drive to Shimla. Halt at Shimla for lunch and sightseeing. Resume the drive and drive to Narkanda(8,858 feet). Overnight stay at HPTDC hotel.


    Day 2: Narkanda to Sarahan

    Distance 100 km. 4 hours drivetime on NH 5 and Jeori-Sarahan connecting road


    Drive from Narkanda to Sarahan( alt. 2800 meters). Visit Hatu temple en route and relish Dhauladhar and Kinnaur-Garhwal mountain ranges from there. Drive to Sarahan. Overnight at the hotel.


    Day 3: Sarahan to Chitkul village of Kinnaur

    Distance 106 km. 5 hours drivetime on Jeori-Sarahan connecting road, NH5 and Karcham-Sangla-Chitkul Road


    Sarahan is a beautiful village famous for the architecturally and historically significant Bhimakali temple, which has a history of more than 1500 years. One can take in the stunning views of the Srikhand Mahadev peak (5150 meters) from there.


    While not actually close enough as it seems, the spectacular Srikhand Mahadev mountain range appears as if it is just an arm’s length away. Visit the bird sanctuary of a near-extinct bird species.


    Drive to Chitkul village and stay there in a hotel. Drive distance is about 106 Kms. Night stay at hotel in Chitkul.


    Day 4: Chitkul to Kalpa

    Distance 62 km. 3 hours drivetime on Chitkul-Sangla-Karcham road, NH5 and Powari-Kalpa connecting road.


    Chitkul (at 3400 meters above sea level), is the last village on the Indo-Tibet border. It is the most visited place in the Baspa Valley of Kinnaur.


    We will visit Chitkul Mata temple and then drive back to Sangla. When we reach Sangla, we can visit the Bering Nag temple on our return trip. Visit the ancient fort at Kamru Village 


    Day 5: kalpa to Nako

    you will be leaving for Kalpa

    passing through the beautiful Spiti Valley.

    ● En route the Indo-Tiber Highway pass through the Khab

    bridge that marks confluence of Spiti and the Satluj River.

    ● Take short stopover night stay at at Nako, explore the Beauty of Nako lake, visit sun sets point



    In Hangrang valley, Nako at an altitude of 3662 M is the famous and the largest village. It lies about 7 km above Hindustan - Tibet Road (NH-22) one kilometre short of Yangthang and 34 km from Puh. It is a typical village with a lake ideal for camping


    Day 6 : Nako to Kaza

    In morning proceed to kaza

    after you will be

    entering the Spiti Valley as soon as you cross Sumdo.

    ● Just 3 Km after Sumdo, take a detour on the right through

    the gate to visit 500-Year-Old Mummy in the Gue Village.

    ● Also, visit the Tabo Monastery which is also regarded as the

    'Ajanta of the Himalayas' and is the oldest in both India and

    the Himalayas.


    • Also visit the Majastick Fort monestry Dhankar that is situated amongst the rocky spurs and it said to be 1000 years old.


    ● You will then proceed towards Kaza where you will be

    spending the night at a hotel


    GUE is a village in the Lahul & Spiti district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. In this little village lays the perfectly well-preserved 593-year-old mummy of Sangha Tenzing. It was a Buddhist monk from Tibet. It was found in a sitting position, with his skin and hair intact.

    Dankar Gompa (32 07 N, 78 12E) is serving eastern part of central Spiti population. Dankar the traditional Capital of Sp is a big village and earstwhile capital of Spit king Hill-top fort which served as jail in good olden days dominates the scene with more than 160 lamas and Buddhist scriptures in Bhot language and a statue of Dhyan Buddha (Variochana) consisting of 4 complete figures, seated back to back is the main attraction of this four to five centuries old monastery,

    However, Dankar's main attraction is a natural lake situated at about 13,500 ft. A foot track about 2.5 km from the village takes you to the lake. The Fisheries Department has developed the common carp variety of fish in the lake.

    A medical worker is available at Dankar village. Nearest government rest house is at Poh about 21 km from Dankar village.

    Now, the road continues up and broadens, upto Lingti village (9 km from Dankar), where Pin and Lingti rivers joins the Spiti.


    TABO 163 km from Kalpa and 27 km from Sando the ancient village, Tabo is situated on the left bank of river Spiti. Flanked on either side by hills, it is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries regarded by many as only next to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet. It is also known as the Ajanta of the Himalayas. Tabo is the largest monastic complex of Spiti which has since been declared a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.


    Day 7 : Kaza to hikim, langa and comic

    After breakfast proceed to visit Hikim highest post office, Langa and Comic monestry and back to Kaza night stay at kaza.

    These three villages situated at heights between 13,500 ft and 14,400 ft above m.s.l.

    Favourite route for those looking for fossils. Near

    Comic village is the famous THANGYUD monastery. The older structure was near Hikkim village. But this dilapidated structure was brought down in an earthquake in 1975. Some ruins still remain. One can go by road (small vehicles only) from Kaza to Langza(8.5 km); then walk to Hikkim - Thangyud Gompa - Comic (8 km); and finally walk down to Kaza from Comic (6 km). Alternatively one can walk upto Comic from Kaza (6 km); then walk to Thangyud Gompa


    Day 8 : Kaza to Losar via Key monestry kibber village and chicham Bridge


    Day 9 : Losar to Sissu via chota Dara, Chandertal lake,chatru Kunzum pass


    Day 10 : Sissu to Manali


    Day 11 : Manali local sightseeing


    Day 12 : Manali to Chandigarh dropping
