Bara Bhangal Trek via Thamsar Pass – Challenging Himalayan Trekking Tour from Chandigarh
Embark on one of the most exhilarating trekking adventures in Himachal Pradesh! The Bara Bhangal Trek takes you through the scenic Thamsar Pass (15,748 ft), offering jaw-dropping views of glaciers, pristine valleys, and an authentic glimpse into the lives of local shepherds. This trek, designed for experienced trekkers, is an intense physical challenge and a rewarding exploration for the adventurer at heart.
Day 1: Chandigarh to Billing | Trek to Rajagunda (14 km)
Starting Point: Departure from Chandigarh to Billing (via Pathankot-Mandi Highway).
Trekking Journey: Upon arrival at Billing, embark on your trek to Rajagunda (8,000 ft). Traverse lush forests, with picturesque landscapes around every corner, as you make your way to the Forest Rest House at Rajagunda.
Overnight Stay: Enjoy a comfortable night camping or at the Forest Rest House in Rajagunda.
Day 2: Rajagunda to Panahartu (16 km)
Elevation: 12,000 ft
Journey Details: Begin your day with a steep climb through rocky terrain. Cross icy gorges and permanent ice bridges as you ascend toward Panahartu. Watch the Uhl River’s source and be awed by the vastness of the icy valley.
Overnight Stay: Camp in the stunning Panahartu valley, surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers.
Day 3: Panahartu to Udeg via Thamsar Pass (16 km)
Key Activity: The toughest day of the trek, as you scale the challenging Thamsar Pass (15,748 ft). After a strenuous four-hour climb, reward yourself with magnificent views of glaciers feeding three pristine alpine lakes. Descend via Thamsar Nalla to Merh and then to Udeg (12,000 ft).
Overnight Stay: Enjoy an unforgettable camping experience under a blanket of stars in the serene Udeg.
Day 4: Udeg to Bara Bhangal (10 km)
Journey Highlights: Begin the descent into the beautiful Ravi Valley, following a network of picturesque trails. Explore the twin villages of Bara Bhangal, home to a friendly and welcoming shepherd community.
Overnight Stay: Relax and experience the rustic charm at the forest guesthouse in Bara Bhangal.
Day 5: Bara Bhangal to Khurdu (32 km)
Trekking Details: Trek through a series of ridges offering expansive valley views. Pass through small hamlets like Khanar, Dardi, and Khurdu, each with its own unique charm.
Overnight Stay: Enjoy a comfortable rest at the guesthouse in Khurdu, surrounded by towering peaks.
Day 6: Khurdu to Nayagram (8 km)
Activities: A relaxing descent to Nayagram alongside the scenic Ravi River.
Transportation: Take a bus from Nayagram to either Holi, Bharmour, or Chamba, where your trekking journey concludes.
Return to Chandigarh: Transfer from Chamba/Bharmour to Chandigarh for your drop-off.
